Facing a Facial Injury? We’re Here With Expert, Compassionate Care
Injuries to the face are more than skin deep—they affect how you speak, chew, breathe, and feel about your appearance. At Mahogany Oral Surgery, we understand the emotional and physical toll facial trauma can take. Whether you’ve been injured in an accident or referred by a hospital or dentist, we’re here to guide you through the healing process with skill and care.
What Types of Facial Injuries Do We Treat?
Our surgeons are specially trained to treat a wide range of facial injuries, including:
- Facial lacerations (cuts to the face or inside the mouth)
- Fractures of facial bones, such as the cheekbones, eye sockets, and nose
- Jaw fractures (upper or lower)
- Soft tissue injuries and damage involving salivary glands or facial nerves
In addition to providing care in our office, our surgeons also treat facial trauma emergencies at Peter Lougheed Hospital as part of the hospital’s on-call surgical team.
How Facial Injuries Happen
Common causes include:
- Vehicle or cycling accidents
- Sports injuries (especially contact sports)
- Falls
- Workplace or construction-related trauma
- Assault or other physical impact
Each injury is unique. Some affect just the soft tissue; others involve bone, nerves, or internal structures. Our job is to assess the full extent of the injury and determine the safest, most effective treatment.
What Does Treatment Look Like?
Soft Tissue Injuries
Cuts and lacerations are closed carefully to reduce visible scarring and protect important structures like facial nerves and ducts. Precision and cosmetic outcome matter here—and we’re trained to get it right.
Bone Injuries
Because you can’t put a cast on the face, we use methods like:
- Jaw wiring for some fractures
- Surgical plates and screws (rigid fixation) that stabilize bones from within
This helps bones heal correctly while allowing you to return to eating and speaking normally as soon as possible.
Will It Affect How I Look?
Our approach to facial trauma balances function and aesthetics. We make every effort to access injuries through the smallest and most discreet incisions—often placed along natural skin lines or inside the mouth to keep scarring minimal.
Healing & Follow-Up
You’ll receive detailed instructions based on your specific injury and treatment plan. We’re here for you throughout recovery—just call if something doesn’t feel right or if you need support.
